Recovery rate is what sets the price
What matters is how much metal is left once the insulation is off. A heavy cable with a thin jacket recovers far more than a thin wire with a thick one, which is why two piles that look alike can price very differently.
Keeping copper wire separate from aluminum wire is the most useful sorting you can do before you arrive.
