Questions we get at the yard

Ferrous and non-ferrous, every grade. That covers steel, cast iron, copper, brass, aluminum, aluminum cans, stainless steel, insulated wire, sheet metal, and appliances, plus lead, radiators, electric motors, and transformers. If you have something that is not on the list, call the yard and ask.

Only if the refrigerant has been professionally removed and the unit is tagged to show it. Without that we cannot accept it. Appliances with no refrigerant in them can come in as they are.

Hold a magnet to it. If it sticks, it is ferrous, which covers steel and iron. If it does not, it is non-ferrous and generally worth more per pound. Some stainless grades are mildly magnetic, so keep stainless apart from plain steel and we will sort out the grade.

We buy metal, so wood, concrete, plastic, tires, and general trash need to stay home. We also cannot take anything holding fuel, or an appliance whose refrigerant has not been professionally removed and tagged. If you are not sure about something, call before you load it.

You do not have to, but separating your material by grade before you arrive gets you a better price and a quicker turnaround. If you are not sure how to sort something, our staff will walk you through it.

Rust and paint are fine and do not need removing. What pulls the grade down is plastic, rubber, and wood still attached to the metal.

On heavy gauge wire, often yes. On fine wire, usually not once you count the time. Bring it either way, and ask us first before you spend an afternoon stripping it.

No. Crushing saves you room in the car but makes no difference to what they weigh on the scale.

Most loads are one stop. We help you unload, weigh the load on certified scales, and pay you on the spot. Keeping the yard organized is what keeps that quick.

It comes down to the metal, the grade, how clean it is, and the market that day. Everything is weighed on certified scales. Non-ferrous pricing follows the Comex and LME markets, which we watch daily.

On the spot. Once your load is weighed and graded, you get paid before you leave the yard.

Yes. We offer contractors special rates on scrap when our protocol is followed, which means presorted material, and there is a volume discount for qualifying weights. Call the yard to set it up.

Containers are for business and industrial accounts with ongoing scrap volume, like manufacturers, fabricators, demolition companies, and contractors with steady work. It is not a general rental. Each account is set up with us by phone, so call the yard with what you generate and how much of it there is, and we will tell you honestly whether it makes sense.

We run 10, 20, 30, and 40 yard roll-offs. The right size depends on the material more than the job. Heavy steel and cast iron reach a legal road weight in a 10 or 20 yard, while light, bulky material like ductwork, siding, and appliances calls for a 30 or 40 yard.

Metal only. Mixed ferrous, structural steel, sheet, machinery, pipe, and non-ferrous like copper, brass, and aluminum can all go in the same box, since we sort and grade at the yard. Appliances are fine as long as any refrigerant has been professionally removed and the unit is tagged. Keep out wood, concrete, plastic, general trash, tires, and anything holding fuel.

Yes. The material is weighed on certified scales when it reaches the yard, graded, and paid out. A container does not change what your scrap is worth, just how it gets to us.

Room for the container plus clear space behind it for the truck to back in and tip the box off the rails, on firm, level ground. Check overhead for power lines, canopies, and branches too. We will confirm the exact footprint with you when the account is set up.
