Telling cast iron from steel
Both are ferrous and both stick to a magnet, so the difference is how they behave. Cast iron is noticeably heavier for its size, rougher on the surface, and chips rather than bends when struck.
You do not need to sort it perfectly. Bring it in and the yard team grades it with the rest of your ferrous load.
