Why Freon is the dividing line
Refrigerant has to be recovered by a certified technician before a sealed-system appliance can be scrapped. That is a regulatory requirement rather than a yard preference, which is why we cannot take those units without proof it has been done.
Everything else comes in as ordinary ferrous scrap. Bring it loose or in a container and we will help you unload.

Only if the Freon has already been professionally removed and the unit is tagged to show it. Without that we cannot accept it.
No, it can stay in. If you do pull it out, keep it separate. Motors contain copper and grade on their own.
